# Troubleshooting

Last updated 29 October 2026

Look up what you see when a database misbehaves, why it happens, and what to do about it.

`db.status()` reports the database’s state (see [Status](https://tonbo.dev/docs/reference/nodejs/status.md)), and the package logs one line per event on stderr, such as `sqlite-ursula-vfs level=warn event=reset ...`. The [status guide](https://ursula.tonbo.io/docs/examples/sqlite-vfs#status) lists the fields to watch and the alerts worth setting. Every error of the package has an `action`: `retry`, `reopen`, `stop` or `fix`.

## By what went wrong

- [Troubleshooting: opening](https://tonbo.dev/docs/databases/troubleshooting/open.md): When open() fails or every request is refused: the database, the key or the lookup.
- [Troubleshooting: resets](https://tonbo.dev/docs/databases/troubleshooting/reset.md): When the package resets a database, and when another process writes it now.
- [Troubleshooting: refused writes](https://tonbo.dev/docs/databases/troubleshooting/writes.md): When Tonbo refuses commits: the balance, access, a large transaction, a full backlog.

## Getting help

[Talk to a founder](https://cal.com/tzu-gwo/hi-from-tonbo) about anything here. Problems with the package itself can also go to [the issue tracker of Ursula](https://github.com/tonbo-io/ursula/issues), the open-source server Tonbo runs on, which is public: leave your data and credentials out of it.
